The Hypnotic Power of Gratitude

I was recently working with a client for drug addiction.

Anyone who recognizes they’re stuck in a problem starts working to get out of it. As you might guess, he spent much of his time and mental energy working to avoid using drugs and alcohol. This avoidance became a huge preoccupation. Of course doing this can work but such vigilance can make an exhausting amount of stress. A turning point happened in our work when he realized that it is easier and  more enjoyable to focus on the things that he appreciates in life as opposed to trying to avoid using drugs and alcohol. The more he would be aware of the things he appreciates the less likely he is to think of drinking or using. Ultimately, if he thought about using intoxicants he realized they wasn’t appreciating the things his life as much as he could have.

I regularly remind clients how quickly craving and habits can be eliminated. Sometimes, when a client gets the result they want they start to wonder how long it’s going to last. Early on I remind them how fruitless this direction of thinking can me. As long as they are worrying, their not focusing on the things for which they can be grateful. As a result, when I’m working with my hypnosis clients I put a strong emphasis on using gratitude to reinforce positive results. What I tell my clients is whenever they notice something we’ve done in hypnosis working to simply appreciate it, smile, do a happy-dance, pat your subconscious mind on the back and say ” ‘at a girl”.

Conclusion

The subconscious mind is incredibly smart and, like a very intelligent child, whenever you acknowledge it for doing something right it starts to do it more. This is true for ANYTHING in your life and is why Gratitude has such an amazing power to help people improve their life.  There is nothing too small to feel grateful for; the air, the sun, the ability to breathe.  Gratitude only takes a moment of your attention to make you feel better.

Common Sense and Hypnosis

I love that quote. Everyone I work with wants to do common sense things that should be easy to do. They want to stop smoking, eat right, control anxiety, focus on important areas of life and avoid distractions.  All of these things are just common sense.

  • It’s common sense to not smoke tobacco.
  • It’s common sense to eat healthy foods.
  • It’s common sense to get physical activity.
  • It’s common sense that speaking to groups of people should be easy.

These things should be easy … but they are not.  If gaining this level of control were easy people wouldn’t need a hypnotist.  A lot of people will explain that they “can’t get our of my own way.”

Hypnosis is designed to create the “ideal conditions” where doing the commons sense things are simple, easy and automatic.

People wonder what the experience of hypnosis is like to make such a dramatic, and common sense, change.  I remind people that it’s all about directing the attention to the right things. The hypnotist is the tour guide, your job is to do the “heavy lifting” by simply following the hypnotists instruction. Most of the time the feeling you get in hypnosis is so positive and pleasant it’s amazing. A lot of people feel so dramatically better they’re smiling and laughing at the end of the session.  Yes, it’s an “ideal condition” for being able to do what is just common sense.

The Unseen Expense of Smoking

Simply knowing you should quit smoking isn’t usually enough to make it happen. Warning labels on cigarette packages become just another form of white noise…even though you know they are right. An annoying cough and heaviness in your chest begs you to quit smoking. In spite of the impact to your health there is a considerable negative impact on something else – your pocketbook.

Is It Overlooking the Obvious or Denial?

Throwing a few dollars toward a pack of smokes seems harmless, like the cost to your health, smoking has a cumulative impact on your long term finances.  Considering the big picture of how small expense add up you should remember that According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , the average cost of a pack of cigarettes is $6.28, which means a pack-a-day habit sets you back $188 per month or $2,292 per year. Ten years of smoking comes with a $22,920 price tag.

If you’re thinking electronic cigarettes are less expensive you would be wrong. It’s just another way to feed a habit that dose more harm than good to your health and finances. A pack of cigarettes you smoke carries an additional $35 in health-related costs.

Think of the BIGGER expense

The cost of smoking adds up and costs you in more ways than you can first imagine. Health and Money are just the most obvious there is also a risk of lost respect in a world where smoking is no longer a respectable pastime. Smoking also sets an example to the people you most care about. The costs keep going up and up.

You are a wiser person when you decide to stop smoking. You will also discover that you are a stronger person too. Hypnosis has been shown to be one of the most effective methods to become a lifelong non-smoker.

Make the call.

The Problem With “Hypnosis Is Magic”

The good news is hypnosis is amazingly effective at helping people. The bad news is many people think hypnosis is magic.

Hypnosis isn’t magic. It’s a very specific process that anyone can experience if they have an attention span and can follow instructions.

Thanks to the media and other poor representations of hypnosis in pop culture there is a large number of misinformed people who think hypnosis is mystical, magical and even, God forbid, satanic.

For those people whose minds are already made up about this there’s nothing I can say. But for those willing to learn and put aside preconception they will find out that hypnosis is a natural process we all experience.

The problem of “Hypnosis is Magic” occurs when people come to me with some of the following requests:

Hypnosis as a cure for your relationship.

I once had a couple come to me requesting to hypnotize the wife to prove that she didn’t have an affair five years earlier while the husband was passed out drunk. Clearly, that was not a hypnosis problem, it was a relationship problem. I told them to see a counselor to help them with their trust issues.

Hypnosis for someone else’s problem

I still get asked “Can you make my kid/parent/spouse fill-in-the-blank?” Basically they are saying “I can’t control my this person the way I want. Can you help?”

The short answer to that is “Maybe I can, but only if they ask me.”

I know the strength of hypnosis and in some cases it’s possible to change people without them knowing but I won’t do that. It’s too much work and there are no guarantees.

Hypnosis to forget

This is usually requested because of pain or trauma that people want to get over. As powerful as hypnosis is total amnesia for events is hit-or-miss at best. Yes, it’s possible but it’s seldom efficient.

A better solution to painful memories and trauma is to strengthen character of the client so can remember events without associated pain. Former traumas become simply events of their life. They will agree they were painful but feeling stronger and those events no longer control them on a day-to-day basis.

Hypnosis for some new age psychic energy thing

Because hypnosis has such broad applications it’s been applied heavily in the new age arena of mystics, psychics and energy workers. While I wish them well in using it, for me hypnosis is a very powerful and precise tool for helping people. Things like ‘opening the third eye’ or ‘raising my own energy’ are just too nonspecific for me to measure. Hypnosis is best suited for changing unwanted behaviors and enhancing performance.

Conclusion

Yes, When I’m hypnotizing someone I go for the ‘Wow!’, that’s what they proclaim when the session is over. It’s a testament of the intensity of what they experienced and proof to them they were in hypnosis.

People will tell you the quality of change they feel from hypnosis is “magical” but that does NOT mean it is magic.

Why New Years Resolutions Don’t Matter

new-years-resolutionsMost of us consider the New Year as a time to re-evaluate … EVERYTHING … and vow to do better. That is the origin of the New Years Resolution.

This is the reason sales of gym memberships soar in January and why gym attendance plummets in February.

It’s hard to imagine what can happen in one year but each year we try again to do better.

Understand, I’m not telling anyone to stop making New Years resolutions. In fact, I’ think we would do better to make a resolution EVERYDAY for only that day.  That way it’s more likely over time that change will happen slowly over the year instead of all at once from January 1st onward.

Think of what you could do if you made 365 small day-long resolutions in a row. You would probably accomplish more with those 365 small resolutions than with a solitary yearly one.

What kind of daily resolution could you make?

  • To be kinder to those closest to you for this one day.
  • To repeat positive phrases quietly in your mind for this one day.
  • To show up on time for this one day.
  • To remove social media from your life for this one day.
  • To give the best service you can for this one day.
  • To read something positive for this one day.
  • To give an honest compliment to three or more people just for today.
  • Anonymously perform one act of kindness for today.

The list can go on and on.

Why wait for a year to roll around when you can resolve to do something good every time the day begins?

Perhaps the title of this article is wrong, New Years resolutions ARE important. Sometimes what is more important isn’t the big efforts we make to improve our lives, but the small ones.

Quality of Life vs. Smoking, Drinking & Obesity

ImprovePerformanceAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO) smoking, drinking and obesity is very likely to shorten the life span of Europeans*. And if it’s true for Europe it’s true for us in the good olde US of A.

Life expectancy is just one reason to change habits and improve your lifestyle. Another reason is Quality of Life.

Overeating, smoking and drinking may provide momentary satisfaction. In the long run these habits literally make you sick and reduce your satisfaction in life and your overall well being.

We all want to change but we don’t all know how. Most of our habits, good and bad, are now subconscious and we notice them by means of uncontrolable cravings and urges. Will power works for a while but it’s hard to fight habits and urges that are so deeply entrenched.

More than any other single method, hypnosis has a long history of changing subconscious habits and patterns and creating healthy choices that FEEL NATURAL.

Seriously, imagine living healthier because it’s easier and because it makes you FEEL GOOD! That’s what hypnosis has been doing for hundreds of years now.

Changing thoughts on cigarette smoking

george marks man in top hatIn the 50’s, it was fashionable to smoke cigarettes. Back then, you could smoke anywhere… airplanes, grocery stores and even hospitals. Can you remember a time when there were smoking sections in every restaurant? I can. My how times have changed! Today more than 50 million Americans smoke, with about 46% of them trying to quit each year through various methods of smoking cessation.

Face the Smokers Tax

A growing number of companies simply aren’t tolerating smoking in the workplace. Did you know about the ‘Smokers Surcharge’? That is, that more and more companies are beginning to demand that employees who smoke (or those who are overweight) share in a greater part of their health care costs. Statistics show that policies that impose a financial penalty on those who lead ‘unhealthy’ lifestyles has doubled in the past few years. Wal-Mart’s choice to start charging its employees more for insurance came without warning. Target and Pepsi have followed suit forcing workers to pay as much as $600 more per year unless they complete a smoking cessation program.

What’s more is that science is uncovering more and more about just how deceived we have all been by cigarettes. We found a study that recently revealed that people draw harder and deeper on light cigarettes, filling their lungs with more harmful material than they would inhale from regular cigarettes.

Why is Hypnosis effective for Stopping smoking?

How easy would it be to quit smoking if you had more willpower? That’s precisely what hypnosis aims to manufacture…Ten times more will power then you ever dreamed possible. Hypnosis is quite possibly the most scientifically expounded of all the so called “alternative” methods of therapy ranging around 90% effective in studies. Our goal is straight forward, to help you quit smoking. We are sure you can quit smoking through hypnosis and we guarantee it by offering free complementary follow-up sessions (if necessary). There are very few hypnotist who would make this promise. You will be a non-smoker, from your very first session, or we will do more hypnosis. It’s that simple.

Hypnosis for Memory Recall

How fast could you learn if you didn't have to think about learning?

How fast could you learn if you didn’t have to think about learning?

Understanding How memory works

In order to better understand how hypnosis works for memory improvement, it might be is interesting to understand how the mind works in the first place.  Our memories are part of a complicated system which is not fully understood. There are different kinds of memory, like short term “working” memory, like recalling an email address momentarily for immediate use. Then there is long-term memory, which refers to your semantic or autobiographical memory.

How hypnosis works for Memory Recall

Hypnosis can be used to enhance memory recall by dealing with the sub-conscious mind to improve the mechanisms in which we create and retrieve memories.  Have you ever hidden something important, only to forget where you hid it? You might not have considered it, but many people have used hypnosis to recover lost items.  Over the years I have been asked to help recover lost jewelry, keys, wedding rings, money and so on. This is a powerful demonstration of the usefulness of hypnosis in memory recall.

Our experiences with Hypnosis for Memory Recall

The maximum benefit of Hypnosis to improve memory recall has not yet been realized. We have developed a cutting edge technique utilizing hypnosis to increase persons recall ability. The result is we have created a subconscious mental process to store and retrieve memories more efficiently.  The typical mnemonic system requires a conscious intent to set something into memory.  Through hypnosis, we have been able to remove this barrier and make learning a methodical process. This hypnosis training is completed during series of 1 on 1 hypnosis sessions which last for 3 consecutive days. Students of this training have reported astounding results, such as learning a new language in 30 days, playing musical instruments in less than one month, higher mastery in their work-related skills and so on. We continue to work with people to improve memory recall through hypnosis, and push the boundaries of hypnosis for memory recall.
