MYTH #1: IT IS MIND CONTROL
Fact: The client has control of their mind at all times, the hypnotist just helps to guide you during the session. Using hypnosis helps our clients to remember or deal with certain issues that have happened in their past and allows them to receive suggestions that are based on their personal goals and objectives. During a hypnosis session, the client determines the level of participation and always has complete control of their mind.
MYTH #2: I WILL GET STUCK IN A HYPNOSIS STATE
Fact: No one ever gets “stuck” in hypnosis. Remember that hypnosis is a natural and normal state to be in from time to time. There is nothing happening against your conscious, or sub-conscious, will. Fact is, your subconscious is always present. Hypnosis is not magic nor are you under any mystical trance.
MYTH #3: I MIGHT REVEAL SECRETS
Fact: Hypnosis is always a self-controlled and self-directed process. Our hypnotist is only there to gently guide your mind into a hypnotic state, where you will receive encouraging suggestions that can help you overcome many problems and ultimately achieve your goals. In order for hypnosis to occur, there has to be complete cooperation between the client and their hypnotist. You are never forced to talk about anything during hypnosis.
MYTH #4: I WILL BE ASLEEP
Fact: You are always completely awake and aware of your actions during hypnosis. It is just a very relaxed state of mind with a heightened awareness that allows you to become more mentally alert than usual. You will not lose consciousness and the level of involvement during hypnosis is completely up to you throughout the entire process.
MYTH #5: IS IT AGAINST MY RELIGION
Fact: Hypnosis is an accepted practice among many religions. The Roman Catholic Church was one of the first to accept hypnosis in 1957, by recognizing the lifelong healing benefits that it can bring to an individual. Other major religious groups have also accepted hypnosis and allow their members to use this form of practice. Hypnosis is often viewed as ‘magical’ – it’s not. Hypnosis is powerful self-help. While in a meditation state you are able to bring about desired changes in your life.
MYTH #6: I CAN’T BE HYPNOTIZED
Fact: Everyone has the ability to become hypnotized. After all, we enter a hypnotic state when falling asleep and waking up each morning. The difference for many people is the approach of the hypnotist during their session, as individuals are responsive to various methods. This can lead to the conclusion that you cannot be hypnotized, but it is just a matter of figuring out the approach that works best for you. Hypnosis is a normal and natural state of mind that everyone can experience.
